Welcome back to a new year!
I am extremely excited to have joined the ranks at Morehead Middle School as their Technology Facilitator. The first two weeks of school flew by for me. I was able to get into a few classrooms and witness students who were engaged and actively learning. I saw document cameras and Interwrite slates being used in half of the rooms I visited. I viewed several classes working with our portable laptop carts. And I have already been approached by a number of staff members who are actively seeking out creative ways to incorporate technology into their lessons. We are doing some great things here at the middle school when it comes to using technology in the classroom. Teachers are using it as a bridge between students learning. Our students are very fortunate to have such a ‘techno savvy’ group of teachers on staff.
To the Teachers at MMS:
My goal this year is to assist you in engaging our students, not enraging them! Let’s bring to life their world and invite them to take part in the educational process. How can we do this? By getting feedback from the students…ask questions. What works for them? What do they like? Take the temperature of the room from day to day. We are well aware of the fact that how we were taught is not an affective way to teach 21st Century Learners. I encourage you to step out of the box this year…and like many of you who are already out…what can you do different this year? Get creative…
In closing I would like to thank the staff at MMS for welcoming me with open arms. It’s always hard to transition to a new building no matter where you are. I already feel like I belong at MMS.
I look forward to a wonderful year!
Jen Romph
